Loss Hair

Losing your hair? Don’t worry. You’re not alone. Up to 50% of all men have some type of hair loss before age 50.  Many men’s hair loss begins much earlier. Even teenagers have been known to wake up with lost hair on their pillows in the morning.

What causes hair loss?

The answer is not so simple. There are a variety of factors that can contribute to the loss of hair. One is simple genetics, and contrary to the popular myth the propensity to lose hair is actually passed down from the father’s side of the family and not the mothers. Of course, if you ask any bald man, he will tell you that his hair loss is caused by his superior virility. And there is some truth to this, as increased levels of male hormones do contribute to hair loss. Medical conditions, such as heart and prostate problems as well as diabetes can also trigger hair loss.  So, if you’re noticing a sudden and rapid hair loss, please see a doctor for a full check-up ASAP. It could be something more serious than alopecia, or hair loss.

What to do about hair loss

There are many approaches. The classic hair loss remedy is the old-fashioned toupee. I’m sure we’ve all had a teacher or two who resorted to this to hide their loss of hair. Meanwhile, some men who suffer from hair loss make the most of their existing hair, by combovers, either back to front or side to side. The latter is affectionately known as bar code hair. Others resort to hair weaving or transplants. Still others try various medicated shampoos and creams. And then there are those who choose to do nothing at all about their hair loss. These brave men have made peace with their baldness, and proudly sport their shining palates for all the world to see.
